Three IEP teachers adapted NOTES--the Notetaking Observation, Training, and Evaluation Scales--for ELLs and noticed post-implementation improvement in student notetaking. The NOTES system helps students self-monitor, leading to effective page use and clearer organization of ideas, indicating improved comprehension. Recommendations for ELLs include the importance of methodical, repetitive notetaking practice, metalanguage (e.g., indentation and abbreviations), and self-reflection. Session participants receive teaching tips and links to the NOTES system to enhance current classroom instruction.
