In this session, participants will learn about an innovative program that engages older ELLs in meaningful academic instruction and provides access to career training. The CREA (Career Readiness Educational Academy) Program, established by Montgomery County Public Schools in 2016, offers both a full-day and an evening program to serve older ELLs who are unlikely to meet high school graduation requirements before turning 21. CREA provides students with an opportunity to improve English and math skills while preparing for the GED exam and also studying a career pathway.
Dr. Lindsay Walberg is the CREA Program Specialist with Montgomery County Public Schools. She has taught in ESOL, bilingual, and dual language programs in K-12 public schools and GED classes for adult learners.
